Last month, Plant-e’s SensorSticks were installed across these sites as part of a mid-scale trial, bringing cutting-edge monitoring to two of England’s model peatland restoration projects. We are so proud to be working with Natural England on two of their flagship restoration site: Bolton Fell Moss and Wedholme Flow.

Bolton Fell Moss and Wedholme Flow tells a powerful story. Once an industrial peat extraction sites, it is they are now both a National Nature Reserves and a living classroom. Restoration teams and students regularly visit to learn from its their transformation, how rewetted peat can once again lock away carbon, create wildlife habitat, and showcase the value of large-scale ecological recovery. Since August 2025, our SensorSticks have been delivering real-time satellite-transmitted water-table data, freeing up resources for restoration while giving an unprecedented window into the site’s hydrology.

As England’s nature conservation agency, Natural England leads the way in protecting and restoring peatlands nationwide. From shaping policy to guiding restoration in the field, their work is critical for tackling climate change, protecting biodiversity, and securing the health of landscapes for generations to come.
