The installation of the P-MFCs at three locations of South Holland was initiated to not only demonstrate the capabilities of P-MFCs to power IoT devices throughout the year, but also answer some practical questions. With the support of Hoogheemraadschap Delfland, three locations in the region of Delft-Rotterdam have been selected.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The field test includes two types of 40 cm PMFCs, whose performance is being evaluated under different conditions. The first type uses carbon felt and polyester fleece as electrode and spacer materials, while the second type uses recycled carbon nonwoven and cellophane film. Despite expected equivalent long-term performance from both types, variations may exist in their short-term capabilities and startup phase due to a different material choices.

TIMING

The Delfland field test was launched in early September 2023
