In 2021 we started developing smart tree planters. In collaboration with the well-known company Van den Berk nurseries throughout Europe, 6 large tree containers have been placed on the experimental outdoor area of Plant-e.
The tree containers have two compartments. In the upper compartment the tree has plenty of room to grow its roots and the water requirement can be regulated. The lower compartment is saturated with water. The Plant-e system is incorporated in this.
Meanwhile, the first product is available: the tree planter with integrated soil moisture sensor. This way the tree can tell itself when it is time to water.
